The Mustard Seed Project promotes independent living and quality of life for seniors residing on the Key Peninsula in western Washington by providing services and programs in transportation, information & referral, health and wellness, senior housing options, community education, and nutrition.

Connection & Support

There are now three monthly support groups at the Crandall Center to support you during different stages of life.

The Caregiver Support Group meets on the third Monday of each month at 2:00pm. This is a safe place for unpaid caregivers, their families, and friends to exchange practical information on caregiving problems and possible solutions, talk through challenges and ways of coping, share feelings, needs, and concerns.

Life After Loss- Grief Support Group meets on the second Monday of each month at 12:00pm. This supportive group offers a safe and compassionate space for individuals grieving the loss of a loved one.
-Share your feelings openly and honestly: In a confidential setting, you can express your emotions without judgment.
-Find comfort and support: Connect with others who understand the complexities of grief and offer a listening ear.
-Reduce feelings of isolation: Discover that you are not alone in your journey.

Low Vision & Macular Degeneration Support Group meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 11:30am. This group focuses on experiences related to low vision and/or age-related macular degeneration. Conversations will center around loss of sight, fear of the unknown, indifference by others, public ignorance, depression, prohibitive costs, and so much more.

Beginning Tai Chi

Improve your balance, focus and overall health with Beginning Tai Chi.

Free Digital Literacy Classes

Free digital literacy classes at the Mustard Seed Project in partnership with the Metropolitan Development Council and Connect WA Coalition. Bring your own laptop, or use one provided by Connect WA Coalition.

The classes will be held every Tuesday from 10-12pm through the end of March. Each week will cover a different subject. You can take all the classes or attend only those of interest to you.

March 4: Microsoft Word – How to create and edit documents like resumes and letters.
March 11: Microsoft Excel – How to create a spreadsheet to organize data, like a budget.
March 18: LinkedIn – How to sign up for an account, network, and search jobs.
March 25: ChatGPT – The future is Artificial Intelligence. Learn practical uses for ChatGPT.

Farmer’s Coffee Hour

Farmer’s Coffee Hour was started and organized by Janice Bryant of Kaukiki Farm. This is an informal gathering of local farmers to exchange ideas and information and discuss how to collaborate.

The group meets twice monthly at Mustard Seed from 8 – 10 am.

The next meeting is Thursday, March 6th at 8am.

Community Forum- The Way of the Samurai

Community Forum- Transitions & Downsizing

Presenter Tina Baril from Monarch Transitions will discuss how she can assist and guide you through a low-stress moving experience. Monarch Transitions specializes in assisting older adults and their families with the emotional and physical aspects of moving and transition. Understanding the unique challenges seniors face, they offer expertise in resources and approaches that save money, reduce stress, and produce quality results.

Crafternoon- Gnome Painting

For our next Crafternoon we are teaming up with Key Pen Parks to paint ceramic gnomes for the Summer Solstice Gnome Hunt. The gnomes we paint will be hidden in the parks up and down the Key Peninsula for everyone to find. Come help us paint the gnomes for this fun community event!
