“Active retirement” is descriptive of my current life status. I have volunteered as a Facilitator for the Alzheimer’s Association Key Peninsula Care Giver Support Group, and I work as a volunteer Information Specialist for The Mustard Seed Project in Lakebay.
I enjoy regularly participating in the SAIL exercise group which meets in the Puyallup Senior Center. I am a member of the Two Waters Art Alliance of the Key Peninsula. My Lutheran faith commitments include emphasis in areas of senior programs and retirement community worship. Graduate Univ of Washington, Seattle, Pharmacy. Neal Van Der Voorn
KSIC Desk Volunteer
After life long career as a librarian at the Washington State Library and at MultiCare Health System, Neal retired and chose an active lifestyle. He has volunteered at the Mustard Seed Project’s information desk since 2010, but he also counsels Key Peninsula residents on the complicated issues of Medicare and enjoys driving KP residents to their appointments.
Once a week during the school year he mentors young students in reading at Minter Creek Elementary School. His passion is to remain physically active. He, with others, walk in the 360 Trail Park every morning, rain or shine, for up to 2 hours. He has hiked and backpacked throughout the western United States and in New Zealand, Nepal, and Spain.
Tony Trotter

Tony Trotter has been a volunteer at The Mustard Seed Project since 2014, working primarily in the Key Senior Information Center program. He is retired from a career with the City of Tacoma in Public Works and Environmental Services.
Since retiring, he has maintained an active involvement in local water systems and has volunteered for the Pierce Conservation District. He has maintained a home on the Key Peninsula for over 35 years, where he and his wife Barbara raised their family. He is a Vietnam Veteran. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington
This is important to them and it’s important to me. Someday I may need the use of the service myself. Let’s make sure it works right.”
