December at the Mustard Seed Project

A Note from our Board President

It is that time of year again when we get to reflect on the previous year, think about our holiday celebrations, and look to the future.

I have to admit that I was a little bit at a loss for what to share this year for my annual message. And then I attended this year’s Santa for Seniors event as a participant, rather than a volunteer. What I saw reminded me of why I became involved with the Mustard Seed Project in the first place. Joni and I attended and came in at the last moment. We were lucky enough to find a couple seats together and sat with a couple of charming women who we had never met before. One had volunteered at the Mustard Seed in the past, has gotten very busy, but looks to volunteer again in the future. The other woman was someone who takes advantage of our home delivered meals and doesn’t get out much, and had never visited the cafe before. Both commented about how much we have changed and grown as an organization through the years and how impressed they were with who we have become.

Another thing that was apparent to me. We have an amazing staff of dedicated employees who love serving our elder community. All the employees that were involved were very engaging to all of us participants and helped out in all areas where they were needed. But the heroes in my opinion were those volunteers, who come to every event and volunteer. They are simply awesome. I am personally challenged by their dedication to our Mission to serve our aging population here on the Key. They work as if they are being paid top dollar and treated each one of us as if we were the most important people they had ever taken care of.

All that being said, it helped to reaffirm my commitment to the Mustard Seed Project, it’s Mission and the entire community of staff and volunteers who do what they can each and every day to make the Key Peninsula an excellent place to not only live, but to age in place. Thank you all for what you do and for helping this old guy remember what we are all about.

Happy Holidays to all of you! May your holidays be full of happiness and holiday cheer!

Three Days of Santa for Seniors- Our Hearts are Full!

Thanks to the incredible support from our community, we were able to serve 250 festive meals, 250 gift bags, and an abundance of holiday cheer to seniors in our community with three days of Santa for Seniors celebrations. With 72 talented musicians, 30 selfless volunteers, and countless unforgettable memories, this event was truly special.

A heartfelt thank you to all who made this event possible, including the William A.
